Artificial intelligence (AI) opens up enormous development potential for the scientific and social progress of humanity. At the same time, however, its impact on the balance of the post-globalized world is becoming one of the main geopolitical concerns for responsible stakeholders.
The 'AI race’ is already influencing the foreign policy choices of major international players. Hence the need to adopt regulations aimed at preventing the possible harmful effects, intentional or unintended, of new technologies. In this context, it is crucial to adopt supranational laws and supervisory systems based on objective data training, transparent decision-making and full accountability.
Governments and international organizations should take urgent action to address these crucial issues and work together to set guidelines to ensure that AI is used in a way that respects fundamental human rights and international law, ultimately promoting peace and stability.
How can the EU play a leading role in defining a global framework for action in this still largely uncharted field?
